I travel a lot for work. To help me fall asleep I usually put on show or movie Netflix or Amazon Prime on my cell phone
and watch/listen to it while falling asleep. I know that for most people that would keep them awake - but for me, it's
the opposite. I just have a hard time falling asleep when it's completely quiet.
Anyway, it was always a pain trying to lean the cell phone up against a pillow or a book or something so I could see the
screen while laying down. But I also tried to lift up one end of the phone so that it was angled a bit, the same way
that my head and eyes were. So I was always trying to lean the phone in two directions, which was annoying.
I needed some way to have the phone lean back (so it wouldn't fall forward) but also be able to tilt an at angle
(left or right, depending upon which side I was laying on) to that it was easier and more comfortable to watch.
And it needed to be something reasonably small (so I could travel with it) and something that would break down
relatively flat (so I could pack it easily).
This is the two-piece device I came up with using some scrap wood leftover from another recent project.
It is easy to travel with and very sturdy. It is also very versatile: it will hold any cell phone, and
will hold them horizontally (like when I'm watching a movie during a flight) or tilted left or right. It only
took a couple of hours to make and has made watching movies so much easier!
Trivia Question: Can you tell what movie is on the cell phone screen in the photos above?
Hint:
"On the other hand, if we stayed on the odd channels, switched every time and started in the basement, that'd work too, wouldn't it?"
"Well, yeah, that'd work too I guess."
"Let's haul ass."
